An extraordinarily rare find; the pair of large and impressive chandeliers are special commissions for Örenäs Castle in Skåne, Sweden. The Castle was one of the last works by architect Fredrik Sundbärg (1860-1913), completed in 1918 and subsequently renovated in the 1930s to accommodate early modern lighting and furniture of the period, including pieces designed by the architect Carl-Axel Acking (1910-2001). These two chandeliers, along with a now lost third, originally graced the ceiling of the castle’s main dining hall.eted in 1918 and subsequently renovated in the 1930s to accommodate early modern lighting and furniture of the period, including pieces designed by the architect Carl-Axel Acking (1910-2001). These two chandeliers, along with a now lost third, originally graced the ceiling of the castle’s main dining hall.
Each chandelier surmounted by a tapering circular canopy above a central hanging rod, the elliptical body issuing fifteen curved arms divided into three tiers, each tier composed of five arms, each arm supporting a single light holder and a tinted glass diffuser in a warm color frequently deployed by the famous lighting designer Paavo Tynell, the glass diffusers gradually increasing in size from top to bottom.
The handblown glass diffusers display a variance in color saturation, each chandelier has fifteen E26 light sockets, the fixtures are re-painted in their original color and rewired for the USA.
